Amina Crooks is a passionate AI educator and the founder of AI Literacy 4 All, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to disseminating AI Fluency inclusive of diverse and disadvantaged communities. She has spent the past five years educating others about artificial intelligence (AI) through several mediums, including delivering corporate workshops, university lectures, peer mentoring, writing articles, presenting at conferences and speaking on podcasts.
Amina began her career as an Epidemiologist and worked as a research scientist and university lecturer. She worked for various government, academic and non-government organisations in North America, Southeast Asia and Australia, leading the strategic vision, design and implementation of large-scale, multi-year public health research programs that involved collecting and analysing large amounts of data to predict health outcomes. During these years, she was an avid data modeller proficient in SAS, STATA, SPSS and R. Her areas of expertise included women’s health and nutritional sciences.
After spending more than a decade performing rigorous epidemiological research, lecturing at international universities, publishing more than 44 peer-reviewed scientific papers, and mentoring graduate students, she made a major pivot in her career. Taking up an industry leadership role in Australia’s largest telecommunications company, she drove data & analytics transformation and delivered real-time insights, a data platform (lake) on cloud and next-generation analytics for the business. She was awarded the Group Executive award for Individual Contribution and was one of a group of 12 females selected across Telstra Enterprise for a leadership program for Females in Technology.
Since 2020, Amina has been a consultant advising clients on data, analytics and artificial intelligence challenges for marketing and digital solutions from a strategic and design perspective. She was a Director at Deloitte, helping to launch their AI Institute and leading client projects and teams in Deloitte Digital. In October 2024, she joined the Customer Data and AI team at Accenture Song.
Amina attended the University of Toronto, completing an Honours Bachelor in Arts and Science, a Master of Science and a PhD in Epidemiology. Her career transitions from academia, government, industry and professional advisory services demonstrate her adaptability and growth mindset. A lifelong learner, she has completed executive certificates in Business Management from Yale University (2019), Product Strategy from the Kellogg Institute of Management (2020), Marketing Analytics from Berkeley’s Haas School of Business (2021) and Applied Generative AI for Digital Transformation from MIT (2024).
Amina is a business advisor to UNSW Founders, Australia's most comprehensive university entrepreneurship program, is a guest lecture at the University of Sydney Business School, serves on the Board of Youth in Motion, a not-for-profit organisation working to ensure future generations have equitable access to education, and is a volunteer assisting with fundraising and grant applications for the Women Mentoring Foundation, which champions women from diverse backgrounds, recognising that prevention is essential for your enhanced well-being.
